Recommendations

I found this assignment quite interesting to follow, I felt the excitement when people from the other side of the world just went on my blog and I could follow every single click that was made. It was also interesting to see what the ‘blog-world’ looks like as I have never read or wrote a blog before. In addition to that, I have learned a lot of other things and gained so much information about other topics from my classmates. Here are few blogs that I strongly recommend to take your time and read them carefully.

This topic attracted my attention since it is related to my blog and information I have provided. I was quite interested in the Facebook post she has posted, it speaks to most of us and we are affected by this ‘addiction’ issue from Facebook and the newest technology.

I recommend this blog because it informs us about how children and teenagers are nowadays strongly influenced by the media in terms of physical looks. They want to adjust themselves to the characters in media and this can cause serious weight issues these days.

This is an interesting topic to take a look at, it highlights the point that parents should take better care of their children by giving them healthy food to eat. Many children in the US are affected by obesity and advertisements for fast food are getting stronger than the ones against it.

This blog I highly recommend to women, it informs us about how women are ‘Photoshoped’  by airbrush. They look ‘perfect’ on pictures and the viewers are influenced by this issue because they are not satisfied with themselves and want to look like the women on advertisements.

I liked this Blog because I learned how strong women are affected by shopping, they want everything they see and have always excuses to buy these certain items which are in the end, not even used or warren. This has been an ongoing issue and can lead to massive financial problems.

Virtual Reality?

Nowadays we can see that technology is used almost everywhere on earth.
Always more technology is added into the classrooms, black boards have been replaced by smart boards, open windows by air conditions, printed books by E-Books and our brains my calculators.
Technology made our lives a lot easier today; we can get work done much faster and have more time for other assignments.
However, it has to be mentioned that technology effects the interpersonal communication drastically between teacher and student. Furthermore the social behavior of students changes as they are not participating in class and having discussions.
The technology made it possible that education is not a privilege any longer, without discrimination; there is any kind of information found on the Internet.
By decreasing the prices of technology, most countries are capable of possessing a computer or note-book.
There are still some house holds which do not give such open access to teenagers, this is good for the student but on the other hand it makes life more difficult for them since nowadays teachers require students to do their research online and bring typed work back to university or school.
The pressure, of possessing a lap-top increases every year, a person that does not own his own computer is either designated as poor or not fully educated and does not have the need of having one.
As a matter of fact, is it really better for students to be computer literate than being active in real life? And we should ask ourselves, how come teenagers communicate with people on the other side of the world but ignore their social environment?
Technology should be used in educational life, no doubts about that but it should be in limits so that students are able to focus on their studies and be social at the same time. It is greatly surprising that students in the US high schools even request for more technology, as in the article mention before on this blog, having Wi-Fi on a school bus is unusual and students are more likely to be in danger of Internet Addiction. Students should find the middle course in using technology and being social in life.

The “Internet-Addiction”

Teenagers are addicted to the Internet

Due to this huge internet access and provided technology, teenagers are endangered of internet addiction. Teens at the age of 15 already get smart phones from their parents with 3G internet, which means that they can surf the web anywhere they are. They basically surf online whenever they get bored. Obviously students, as we know, get bored in class sometimes too so they just take out their smart phones or lap tops and surf online without even realizing that they are bored.
Some teenagers also have the feeling they are ‘missing out’ on something if they did not access Facebook for longer than two hours.  There is a certain difference in the ‘Facebook-Addiction’ and the ‘Web-Addiction’: The ‘Facebook-Addiction’ is happening unconsciously, which means basically that students keep checking their Facebook profile and as soon as something very dramatic or special happens in their life, they have the need to tell the world by posting a status.
Furthermore, many students and teenagers tend to have Facebook opened up even during study time or while they are watching television. Is your Facebook tab open as well at this moment?

Some people don’t even realize how many hours they spent on Facebook if they add the hours on their smart phones as well.
However, the ‘Web-Addiction’ is known as someone having the need to read the latest news online. People think that all the news are getting updated quicker than in the printed news papers which is true but are all of the online news trust worthy? There are always news updated but are the first news the most accurate and true ones? This is something people need to think about.
Other people also shop online which leads to great addiction as well, they don’t need to go outside for shopping because this can be all done online. Another subject is playing bets on sports games, people simply follow games online and bet on the scores.

Finally students are also relying on the data they find online, whatever they need to do research on, they simply Google the topic they need to know about. Less and less students go to libraries, less students ask teachers for help, they just rely on whatever they read online.  http://www.counseling.umd.edu/Personal/~kandell/iacpbart.htm

Here is an Internet Addiction Test where you can check yourself if you are harmed by the new technology of these days. http://www.netaddiction.com/index.php?option=com_bfquiz&view=onepage&catid=46&Itemid=106

Students wish to have Wi-Fi on School Buses

A student council of the North Central high school in Indiana helped to raise up money to install Wi-Fi internet access on school buses.
As this was tried out, bus drivers said that these bus drives with the provided internet were much more quiet and peaceful compared to the earlier drives without Wi-Fi connection. Students were not pinching or shouting at each other anymore, instead they were quietly surfing on the internet. This was done so that students could also work on school work after classes.
The school even offered netbooks to students that had drives longer than 60 minutes.
Superintendent claims that students on the bus would not only use the internet for class work but the same way the would use at home which would be surfing on the web, chatting online etc. However, teachers assume that most of the students are doing their homework on the bus in the morning instead of doing them the night before at home which is not very good. Students do their homework very quick just to have it done and don’t even learn anything from it, what they say ‘they just don’t want to get into trouble’.
I would like to point out that students don’t even realize in how much technology they live and they wish to have even more.

Students come from different kind of families, some of them are used to have technology around them 24/7, others don't really need it but they get tought of having technology around them and this is how they get used to it. In other words, students that are not into technology and don't need it get easily influenced and the school provides them with so much technology that they automatically think they need it in every way.
